I've been trying to upload a family tree of mine, but this is never successful. The gedcom wouldn't upload successfully. This seems to be a common problem, judging from other postings here. But I haven't seen a reply with the solution.
I am running Windows XP SP2. My gedcom is 545 KB and was created in Legacy Family Tree. When I first indicate that my tree was created in another genealogy program, I get the following cache error: Unable to update files in cache. Sun.plugin.cache.JarCacheVersionException: Number of attributes specified in 'cache_archive' doesn't match those in 'cache_version' After clicking on the "OK" I get a security warning as it tries to install the Aurigma image uploader: "The application's digital signature has an error. Do you want to run the application?" I click "OK." I then drag my gedcom into the requested area and click "Upload". The gedcom appears to upload successfully, and I click "OK" on the Image Uploader "upload complete" box. Once again I get the Cache error: "Unable to update files in cache." When I click "OK," I am returned to the My Heritage Add family tree page, which is now displaying the error message: "There was some problem with the uploaded file so unable to publish family tree."
I'd love to use this site, but this makes it pretty impossible.. Any ideas how to fix it? Maybe it's not fixable.
The new "Import Gedcom" utility seems to be working just fine. I'd given up on hearing from anybody, but recieved an automatic notification email last week announcing the "new capability." I gave it a try, and it worked smoothly. It's too bad that it's so inflexible, however. It would be nice if the upload could be configured like the World Connect Project allows. It's nice to be back in business again, though. Glad it's fixed!!
We LOVE suggestions here at MyHeritage - can you tell me some more specific aspects of the World Connect Tree that you might like to see incorporated on your family site or family tree?
The best way to add information to your family tree from SmartMatches that you received is to use the Contact Webmaster link and get in touch with the webmaster of the family site where you have matches. That way, you have a good chance of getting more information than you may have thought available and you will be able to verify the validity of data added to your tree. Not to mention, it’s always great to make new acquaintances with people who share your family history.
